Representing the 500kg of CO2 emissions saved by using Compostar compostable bin liners instead of landfilling food waste.

500kg CO2-e Saved

By composting food scraps instead of landfilling them, you stop methane emissions. That's equivalent to taking a petrol car off the road for 2 months.

Rich compost soil transformed from kitchen scraps, illustrating 300kg of waste diverted from Australian landfills per household.

Save 45m² of Aussie Land Every Year

The average household creates a plastic footprint the size of a studio apartment annually. Don't let it sit in a landfill forever. By switching to Compostar, you stop the sprawl and return clean nutrients to our soil.

Who We Are

G'day! We are the team behind Compostar, based right here in Australia.

Like you, we were frustrated with the daily struggle of kitchen waste. We got tired of flimsy eco bin bags that leaked on the way to the kerb, and "green" products that turned out to be full of hidden plastics.

So, we decided to fix it. We combined 20+ years of manufacturing expertise with a passion for our local environment to create the ultimate Leak-Proof bin liner.

FAQ about our Paper Liners

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is it worth the switch from cheap supermarket bags?

Switching to our certified compostable bags costs only about 55 cents a day. When you consider the time saved from not washing a stinky kitchen caddy and the peace of mind knowing you're FOGO compliant, the value is priceless. You're not just buying a bag; you're upgrading to a 5-star hotel experience for your kitchen scraps.

Will the bag leak if I leave wet food scraps inside for several days?

No. Our leak-proof design has passed a rigorous 72-hour waterproof test. Even after 3 days of holding liquid, the reinforced base remains bone dry and intact, ensuring your kitchen stays clean and mess-free.

Can I put these bags in my council green bin?

Yes. Our bags are certified under AS 4736, making them approved Organics Bin Liners suitable for council bins across Australia (especially NSW and VIC, always check your local council guidelines for green bin acceptance). They are fully compliant FOGO Bin Liners, ensuring they break down properly in commercial composting facilities.

Can a paper bag really be as "Strong" as a plastic bin liner?

Actually, it's stronger. We've conducted a 10KG dumbbell test to prove our bags won't split under heavy loads. Engineered with industrial-strength wet-paper technology, these heavy-duty bags are also puncture-resistant against sharp bones and shells.

How can paper bags be leak-proof with wet food waste?

Our bags use special Reinforced Kraft Paper that is designed to be breathable. Unlike plastic that traps liquid (creating "bin juice"), our paper allows moisture to evaporate. This unique feature prevents liquid from pooling at the bottom, making them a highly effective leak-proof solution for wet scraps like fruit peels and coffee grounds.

Are these bags accepted by my local council's FOGO service?

Our compostable bin liners applicable to council FOGO green bins (please check local acceptance).
Because they are 100% plastic-free paper, they are the preferred Green bin bags Council collection services trust. Unlike some bioplastics that can look like contamination, our paper bags are clearly identifiable and safe for the environment.

Do I need a kitchen caddy for these bags?

No. These are self-standing paper waste bags. Their structured design allows them to stand upright on your benchtop, so there is no bin needed.

Are these bags completely plastic-free?

They are made from strong grams kraft paper reinforced with cutting-edge technology, containing absolutely no plastic or microplastics.
