The Seedling logo indicates that a product has been certified against the relevant Australian compostability standard. AS 4736 relates to commercial composting conditions, while AS 5810 relates to home composting conditions.
Certification helps verify compostability under defined testing conditions. However, green-bin and FOGO acceptance still depends on each local council and its organics processor. Always check your council’s current FOGO liner rules before placing any liner in the green bin.

AS 5810 (Home Compostable):
Compostar compostable film bags, including selected small bin liner rolls and pet waste bag products, carry AS 5810 certification where listed. AS 5810 applies to home composting conditions and does not apply to Compostar reinforced paper food-waste bags.

FOGO stands for Food Organics and Garden Organics. Many Australian councils have introduced FOGO collection services to divert food waste from landfill.
Compostar bags are specifically designed to break down with your food scraps. For councils that accept suitable paper or certified compostable liners, you can line your kitchen caddy, fill the bag with food scraps, fold it closed, and place it into your FOGO bin according to local council guidance. If your council does not accept liners, use the bag only for collection and dispose of the contents as instructed by your council.

Can I put these bags in my home compost?
Compostar reinforced paper food-waste bags are AS 4736 certified for commercial composting and are not AS 5810 home-compost certified. If you need a home-compostable option, please check Compostar’s AS 5810 certified compostable film bag range and confirm the product-specific certification before use.
Are these bags plastic-free?
For Compostar reinforced paper food-waste bags, the product is paper-based and designed for food scrap collection. For Compostar compostable film bags, selected products may use plant-based compostable materials such as cornstarch or PLA and contain no conventional polyethylene plastic. Please check each product page for material and certification details.
